Live Interview on KBCN TV

With the knowledge and wisdom I have learned, I want to help prove God’s existence and power to others.

Takasha Stevenson

Takasha is an only child born in Greensboro, Alabama. However, she was raised in a single parent home by her mother, in Marion, Alabama. By the age of ten, Takasha and her mom moved to Selma, Alabama.

At age twelve, Takasha was sexually harassed and assaulted. Because of fear of her attacker, she did not have the courage to tell until the age of thirteen. By age fifteen, she was intrigued and wooed into the lifestyle of the drug dealers in her hometown and began dating them, not understanding or knowing what the consequences of this lifestyle would mean. Because of the lack of a father’s guidance, love and support, she found herself seeking the acceptance and approval of others and a desire for material gain. This led to greed and then the unthinkable, incarceration.

While in prison, Takasha rededicated her life to God and began a personal relationship with His Son, Jesus Christ. She attended all of the Christian religious services weekly and attended college courses through Greenville Christian College, where she enrolled in various re-entry classes to prepare for her release. She continued to study her Bible and develop her personal relationship with God, the Holy Spirit and Jesus Christ. Takasha then enrolled in a Christian Counseling Program through International Christian Counseling and Seminary (ICCS) to learn more about herself and acquire helpful strategies that she could use going forward.

Takasha is a strong believer of Hosea 4:6 – “My people are destroyed from lack of knowledge. Because you have rejected knowledge, I also reject you as my priest; because you have ignored the law of your God, I will also ignore your children.” However, because of her relationship with Jesus Christ, she knows that God is a God of second chances.

Takasha watched many people come in and out of the prison system for minor crimes with long and harsh sentences, for which she thought did not fit the crime. She developed a strong passion to learn more about the justice system and enrolled in a paralegal correspondence course through the mail. She then received a diploma from Stratford Institution.

Takasha’s desire to learn more about the justice system did not stop with her release from prison. Realizing that God has given her a second chance, she is determined to make a difference. She’s currently involved in learning how she can help reduce the recidivism rate and she is now a student at Miles College in Birmingham, Alabama, majoring in Criminal Justice.
